Rick Tumlinson is a leading architect of the commercial space industry and one of the driving forces behind the NewSpace revolution that empowered innovators—from Elon Musk to Jeff Bezos—to build the next generation of space enterprises. Often cited as the movement's top "Visionary", he has testified before the U.S. Congress six times, led the groundbreaking MirCorp effort to commercialize the Mir space station, and signed the first private astronaut to the International Space Station.

A founding board member of the XPRIZE, Tumlinson also launched pioneering ventures including Orbital Outfitters, the first commercial space suit firm, and Deep Space Industries, an early leader in asteroid resources, He founded SpaceFund VC, the EarthLight Foundation, New Worlds and the Space Cowboy Ball, and hosts the Space Revolution podcast on iHeart Radio.

His decades of opinion and editorial writings in Space News, Space.com Scientific American and elsewhere have helped shape national and international space policy and programs, ranging from NASA to the U.S. Space Force. While a proponent of technology and enterprise, he is also known as a humanist and environmentalist. His book, Why Space? The Purpose of People, shares the deeper mission behind his life’s work.
